Bassentric & Steve Dalachinsky

Evolving Voice Vocal Series
Local 269, 269 E. Houston Street, New York City
August 11, 2009, 8:00 p.m.

Albey Balgochian's Bassentric: Lisle Ellis (left channel), Mike Bisio (right channel), Albey Balgochian (center)
Steve Dalachinsky - words

This performance was the second of a new Tuesday evening vocal series at the Local 269 in the Lower East Side, curated by singer and improviser Fay Victor with dancer and maker-of-happenings Patricia Nicholson. Coming up in this series are Lisa Sokolov, Ellen Christie, Dean Bowman, Kyoko Kitamura, Leena Conquest and many others.

Undeterred by Steve Dalachinsky's voice mic problems, Balgochian started arco and Dalachinsky dove right in. The music and the words kept getting more and more intense. When you hear Dalachinsky mention "the book" being "heavy," he was lifting his new 430-page tome in collaboration with photographer Jacques Bisceglia, Reaching Into The Unknown - 1964-2009 (RogueArt), from which came many of this night's pieces. The hour-long set flowed in a way that precluded applause for individual pieces, although one excited audience member snapped her fingers in approbation Beat-style.
Please thank the performers by buying their works and attending their performances.
